Abstract | This report deals with the impact on the construction workers living in camp and their families and the impact of the camp, camp organization, and camp occupants on the surrounding area. After outlining the methodology and terms of reference, the regional contexts, historical background, and regulatory environment are briefly reviewed. The design, organization, and functioning of camps are described, followed by a descriptive profile of camp personnel. An analysis follows of the way in which the functioning of the camp and the camp personnel impact the local communities. The way in which camp employment, camp organization, and camp location relate to the impact on the construction worker and his family is discussed and finally some observations and conclusions are presented with regard to future camps as well as some suggestions for future research. |
