Abstract

"The traditional territory of the Prophet River First Nation is situated mainly in the boreal forest
region of northeastern British Columbia. The boreal forest (or taiga) is a vast circumpolar region
that stretches across the northern part of our continent, and comprises over 60 % of total
forested areas of Canada and Alaska (Johnson et al. 1995). A very limited region of the boreal
forest extends into British Columbia, so it is a distinct and important ecosystem for the province,
and of significant biological interest
