Abstract | The forest sector, a mainstay of the Canadian economy, generates about $74 billion in revenues annually - including $43 billion in forest products exports - and is the source of 361,400 direct jobs. While First Nations make up a significant portion of the population living in and around the forest, studies indicate that they remain underrepresented in the forest sector in terms of both employment and business activity - a significant lost opportunity for First Nations' socio-economic development, for smooth growth in the forestry industry, and for sustainable forest stewardship in general. |
