Abstract

The environmental effects monitoring program was developed to assess the adequacy of effluent regulations under the federal Fisheries Act. This program has been designed to achieve national uniformity in monitoring of effects, while taking into consideration site-specific factors. This report provides general guidance and recommendations on techniques and methods to fulfil the requirements for the environmental effects monitoring program. The document contains twelve chapters: A description of the study, the sampling design, the quality control for conducting EEM, a sample collection for different analysis, adult fish survey, benthic community assessment, tainting evaluation, behaviourial tests, sub-lethal toxicity and finally chemical and biochemical tracers.
