| Abstract | Five sampling surveys were conducted on the waters of the Athabasca River and its tributaries during the winter of 1969 - 1970. Samples were taken to analyze the river waters for chemical composition and bacteriological constituents on a regular basis. Loadings of Biochemical Oxygen Demanding materials were not found to be high. Dissolved Oxygen levels remained above the Provincial Board of Health guideline of 5 mg/l. The water quality in the Athabasca River and its tributaries was found to be generally acceptable throughout the winter of 1969 - 1970. However, relatively high odor and colour values were observed on occasions during the past winter. The color can be attributed to a large extent on natural causes. |
