Abstract

Summarizes the environment, settlement, economy, sociopolitical organization, and religion and expressive culture of the Proto-Athapaskans tradition, which extended across the subarctic from western Alaska almost to Hudson Bay. Includes 31 documents that describe archaeological investigations and cover the period 4500 B.C.-A.D. 1850, although each focus on a different time and place within the tradition. Several discuss the Taltheilei, a Proto-Athapaskans subtradition.
