Abstract | A review of the available literature was conducted on obligatory insectivorous animals expected or known to occur in the Alberta Oil Sands Environmental Research Program study area. Several biologists involved in studies of the area were contacted. Distribution, abundance in the AOSERP study area, food habits, habitat preferences, and foraging behaviour were examined for over 100 arthropod families and 153 vertebrate species. Knowledge gaps were delineated for each group reviewed. A figure depicting possible interactions between insectivores (vertebrate and invertebrate) and the possible insect prey was constructed, in which the taxa are presented :in relation to their preferred habitat(s). |
