This paper presents a comprehensive overview of recent ethnographic research in northern North America, combined with a modest attempt to relate recent work to earlier studies. Topics discussed include the demographic aspects of northern research, northern research organizations, ethnographic publication in general, and studies of the following peoples and subjects: Eskimos and Aleuts; Northern Athapaskans; Northern Algonquians; other northern ethnic groups; inter-ethnic relations; museum collections; art; music; myths; legends and narratives; personal adjustment problems; articulation problems; the impact of northern development; culture and personality; social organization; Native claims; government-Native relations; land use and occupancy; and social history.
